Evenepoel was present: the new team shares one fun video after another, but why don’t you see the top transfer anywhere?

Racing around in crazy outfits, playing football, and undergoing numerous medical tests. Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe is posting plenty of amusing content from their team days on social media. The only question is: why is top transfer Remco Evenepoel nowhere to be seen? Our compatriot was, however, present. The reason is quite simple.

At Red Bull, they are the kings of content.

This is also evident with the Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe cycling team. This week, they released a clever video about “groundbreaking” research on aerodynamics, but also shared some playful content about the team days in Austria. The riders are seen racing around on bikes in crazy outfits, changing F1 tires, and even playing a game of soccer.

Only: why is  Remco Evenepoel  nowhere to be seen? You’d think the team would want to make a splash with the top transfer, right?

“Riders are already allowed to ride their new team bike and wear the equipment, but it must be ‘blank’.

Well, it all has to do with how cycling contracts are drawn up.

“Those always run until December 31st,” explains sports lawyer Ben Leyman, who frequently handles cycling cases. “But UCI rules stipulate that certain things can happen for the new team after the last WorldTour race of the season. Specifically, transfers can be proposed and participate in training camps, but they can’t yet be used as a billboard on social media, for example.”

In addition, there are also strict regulations regarding clothing and materials.

“Riders are already allowed to ride their new team’s bike and wear the equipment, but it must be ‘blank’,” said Leyman.

That’s why Evenepoel currently has to ride around in his old uniform, or so-called “black clothes,” without sponsors. And you won’t see him wearing a Red Bull cap in his spare time either.

Leyman: “Teams can always agree on different terms, but in Evenepoel’s case, that won’t have happened. So, we shouldn’t see him in his new uniform until January 1st.”

So we’ll have to wait a little longer before Red Bull comes out with all its Remco content.
